Drenasi lies in the central part of Kosovo and has a surface area of 290 km², which is 2.66% of the total surface area of Kosovo. This entire area, which consists of 42 settlements, is surrounded by the mountains of Berisha, Kasmaq, Qyqavica, Golesh, and Lipovica (Blinaja).

These mountains lie on both sides of the Drenica River Valley. Another feature of this region is the mine and foundry of "Feronikeli," as well as several quarries. The Drenica and Verbica rivers pass through this municipality, and their waters are used for the irrigation needs of agricultural lands.

According to the last census, this territory had a population of over 67,000 inhabitants, while the latest estimates show there are now over 73,000 inhabitants. The municipality was established before the Second World War as a separate social, political, and administrative unit.

Despite the low economic development in recent years, the municipality of Drenas has made some steps toward the gradual transformation of its economic, agricultural, educational, health, and industrial structures. In Drenas, among other things, you can visit tourist places such as Lake Vasileva, the Stone of the Old Lady, Cuka Castle, and Godanci.

Podujeva lies in the northeastern part of Kosovo, in the plain of Llap, bordered by the hilly-mountainous parts of the Albanian mountains in the west and the eastern mountains.
