Artana (Novoberda) is one of the earliest settlements in the surroundings of Pristina. Artana Castle is located approximately 30 km from Pristina, on the way to Gjilan. The ancient origins of Artana Castle are supported by archaeological work conducted at the site, which reveals that various minerals, including gold and silver, were extracted in the surrounding area.

Another piece of evidence for its historical significance as an ancient settlement comes from the writer and historian Strabo (63-20 BC), who, in his work "Geographica," mentions the settlements of Scupi (Skopje), Naissus (Nis), and also refers to the settlement of Artana.
