Mirusha Waterfalls were declared a Regional Nature Park in 1982/83 by the Municipality of Malisheva, covering an area of 555.80.70 ha. In 2012, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo issued a decision declaring the Mirusha Waterfalls a Natural Monument of Special Importance, with a total area of 598.4 ha. 

The Mirusha River passes through a gorge known as the Mirusha River Canyon, which features 16 waterfalls and lakes that form the most attractive part of the canyon. 

The Mirusha Waterfalls are distinguished by their unique natural, national, and cultural heritage values.
