The National Historical Museum is the largest museum institution in Albania and one of the most important, aiming to promote the understanding and appreciation of the history of Albania among the local, national, and international public, as well as to encourage dialogue between citizens about the past, present, and the Albanian future. The museum acquires, preserves, and studies material and non-material evidence of Albania’s historical and cultural heritage, which it communicates and presents in an environment that promotes education and entertainment. It also organizes and facilitates activities that support its vision and mission.
The National History Museum was inaugurated on October 28, 1981, and is the largest museum institution in Albania. The building of the National History Museum occupies a total area of 27,000 m², with an exhibition area of 18,000 m² and a total volume of 81,000 m³. In the museum’s premises, there are about 4,750 objects, which belong to a relatively long period, starting from the 4th millennium BC up to the second half of the 20th century. The museum is designed to be presented through eight pavilions.
