Prizren Castle holds an important place in the ancient history of the city, featuring an attractive natural landscape and significant architectural, scientific, historical, and touristic value. It is located in the eastern part of the city on a conical hill. The fortification walls follow the isohyps of the terrain in an approximately oval shape, extending in a north-south direction. The oldest known record of the castle comes from the Byzantine chronicler Procopius of Caesarea in his work De aedificiis (On Constructions).
Structurally, the castle is divided into three distinct complexes: the Upper City, the Lower City, and the Southern City. Over the centuries, its fortifications have evolved, representing different historical periods, including the ancient period, the Byzantine period, and the Ottoman Empire's rule.
Prizren Castle, with its commanding position over the city, is one of the most important monuments, attracting many visitors. In addition to its high historical, architectural, and scientific significance, this site also holds great economic potential for the development of cultural tourism.
