The National Museum of Kosovo was founded in 1949 by the Yugoslav authorities and is located in the city of Pristina. The museum consists of three parts: The Museum of Kosovo itself, the Emin Gjiku Housing Complex where the Ethnological exhibition is presented, and the Museum of Independence.
The museum consists of four departments: Department of History, Department of Ethnology, and Department of Nature. The exhibitions are located in three places: the main building, the Ethnological Museum or the "Emin Gjiku" Complex, and the "House of Independence."
The Museum of Kosovo includes a collection with more than 50 thousand exhibits of different profiles, such as archaeology, technology, history, nature, ethnoculture, folklore, heritage, etc. Currently, the museum is engaged in the return of 1,200 objects and artifacts important to the Cultural Heritage of Kosovo, taken from Belgrade during 1998.
