The memorial house and monument of Mother Teresa (1910–1997) are located on Macedonia Street, in the center of Skopje. Dedicated to the great humanitarian Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu—Mother Teresa, born in Skopje and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979—the memorial house lies to the east of the Ristić Palace and Macedonia Square.
The two-million-euro memorial house was opened on January 30, 2009, by Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and is one of Skopje's newest monuments. Construction of the house began in May 2008. The project was financed by the Government of Macedonia and carried out by the Ministry of Culture.
It is a modern, transformed version of Mother Teresa's birth house, with parts of her relics preserved and transferred to Skopje with the support of the Roman Catholic Church of Skopje.
